WFC provides sailing programs for people of all abilities. From beginner lessons to advanced coaching, WFC programs’ got it covered! For years, WFC has offered a popular racing program on Saturday afternoons in the fall and Tuesday evenings in the summer. WFC Racing brings together seasoned racers and new sailors alike, with 3-8 boats on the line for one-design racing.
WFC Race Leaders are seasoned sailors with significant racing experience. They provide real-time, on-the-water coaching, either from a powerboat or right on-board the Sonars. Crews are mixed, so newcomers are mingled in with returning crew, allowing for a unique learning and teamwork experience. Each session, weather permitting, multiple races are held- usually Windwand/Leeward courses, with easy to follow 3-minute starting sequences. Racing is tight, but cordial and there is always a new sailing friend to be made and a few go-fast tips to be learned.
After racing is over, the fun is certainly not done. Racers gather around the WFC BBQ for burgers and dogs and debrief the events from the water. Whether it is a heated rules discussion, coaching tips for strategy or some performance boathandling techniques, everyone leaves with a smile and something new to work on for the next race.
WFC Racing has seen multiple seasons of success because of the camaraderie that is shared amongst racers. New sailors are welcomed aboard while returning sailors continue to be challenged. This really is community sailing at its best.
