High School Sailing Qualifier

On Saturday September 24, a group of our High School Sailors participated in the MASSA (Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association) district qualifier at Stony Brook in Port Jefferson Harbor. All in there were 18 different teams competing at the event comprising 11 different schools. The Cold Spring Harbor Sailing Team was one and the WaterFront Center sent a composite team made up of kids from Locust Valley, LuHi and Oyster Bay High Schools.

There were two divisions for each school one A and one B and each division had five races in light to moderate wind conditions. Everyone was ecstatic for some sunshine and no rain, and the tight competition made the day exciting with closes finishes throughout the fleet.

The first event of the season for all of our sailors went well with Cold Spring Harbor taking the 4th spot and our Composite Team finishing 7th place. A great job by all of our kids and more promising results ahead! An 18 boat fleet creates many new scenarios, ones which are hard to prepare for until you have experienced them. With one more big fleet regatta under their belts, all of our High School Sailors are becoming more and more seasoned.
