During the summer the Skippers and First Mates experience a unique opportunity to go to a new place to explore, discover and learn about their surroundings. The Skippers take the Christeen over to Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill to learn more about the history of one of America’s most accomplished Presidents. The First Mates take an adventure of their own sailing their Opti’s across West Harbor over to Bayville to land on the beach and explore new surroundings.

Sand forts!

Each group comes back with their own stories of adventures they experienced during their trip over the vast Bays they travelled through to get to their destination.  During the trip to Bayville the First Mates explore the beach and marsh habitats, go seining and dip netting and also build various creations in and out of the sand on the beach. Games both organized and invented happen throughout their time and everyone makes their way back sailing their Opti to the WaterFront Center on the other side of the Harbor, if the breeze cooperates the sail is great across the harbor taking in all the sites.

All lined up awaiting for the journey home

Skippers get a tour of Sagamore Hill by one of the expert guides on staff, filling them in on the secrets and the great accomplishments of Teddy Roosevelt. The gun room is always a big hit as the collection is quite impressive especially the larger guns which helped T.R fill out his trophy room which is even more impressive from all of his hunting trips in Africa.

Everyone was exhausted when they returned to the WFC after a great day on the water and on land, and Mother Nature gave us a great day!
